Sunburn generally arises on parts of the body which are not exposed normally to the sun such as the arm, legs, back and abdomen. Moreover it is possible by regular and too long exposure to the sun – the skin more rapidly becomes obsolete and might lead to skin cancer.

During sunbathing do not be in the sun for too long. Avoid 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM during daytime – stay in shade. During this time of the day, the sunbeams are the most powerful. Sunburn can be also prevented by covering the skin, for example with clothing or a towel, and by carrying head covering and sunglasses. The best protection against sunbeams is suntan lotion. It stops the sunlight, absorb detrimental radiation. It is available in the forms like cream, lotion and lip balm. Suntan lotions are available in several forms. Check the protection factor on packing. People with a light, sensitive skin need a higher protection factor. Apply the crème or lotion before 30 to 50 minutes before sunbath. Use it during swimming, sailing or windsurfing. Prefer waterproof lotion.

Anyone raised in a beach community knows the secret of aloe-based lotions. There are many commercially available types. Ask the pharmacist at your local drugstore. Tearing apart your aloe plant in the yard and applying the cool jellylike substance inside the leaves is no longer necessary. Cool (not ice cold) baths may help. Avoid bath salts, oils, and perfumes because these may produce sensitivity reactions. Avoid scrubbing the skin or shaving the skin. Use soft towels to gently dry yourself. Don’t rub. Use a light, fragrance-free skin moisturizer. Avoid lotions that contain topical anesthetic medications because you can become sensitized and then allergic to that medicine. Obviously, stay out of the sun while you are sunburned. At holidays, in the area where the sun is very strong, extra care should be taken because it can spoil holiday.
